In early 2022, inspired by games like Jump King and Getting Over It, I initiated the development of «Jumperino» using the Godot Game Engine. This project sprang from a deep passion for gaming and a personal challenge, marking my entry into the demanding yet rewarding world of game development.
Jumperino, designed for mobile play, offers a new twist on familiar mechanics. It’s set apart by its easy-to-handle controls and a unique art style that mixes retro and lo-fi vibes.
Throughout the journey of bringing Jumperino to life, my technical and creative skills were broadened and refined in various aspects, including:
- Mastering the Godot Game Engine.
- Designing and refining pixel art visuals.
- Integrating external services, such as Google AdMob and Google Play Services.
- Crafting plugins for Godot within Android Studio, including those enabling vibration, in-app reviews, and notifications.
- Managing save states across various devices to provide a consistent gaming experience.
- Learning the ropes of promoting a game through Google Ad Campaigns, understanding the subtleties of presenting and maintaining player interest.
- Harnessing metrics and analytics to make informed decisions for refining Jumperino, ensuring it provides the best possible player experience.
Developing Jumperino was a rollercoaster. It wasn’t just about tackling the techical problems but also about sticking to it through the highs and lows. Jumperino stands as a testament to a journey brimming with learning and a steadfast commitment to bringing a creative vision to life.
